A. Defenisi

Present Continuous Tense atau Present Progressive Tense adalah bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan: 

1. Kejadian yang sedang berlangsung sekarang atau kegiatan sementara.
Contoh : Mr. Teguh is writing a new book. (Mr. Teguh sedang menulis buku baru)

2. Rencana di masa depan yang sudah pasti waktunya (pribadi).
Contoh : I am going to Surabaya at 07.30 tomorrow. (Saya akan pergi ke Surabaya jam 7.30 besok)

3. perubahan atau perkembangan yang sedang berlangsung dalam rentang waktu yang lama. 
Contoh : The earth is getting older (Bumi ini semakin tua)
B. Rumus Present Continuous Tense

Present continuous tense dibentuk dengan auxiliary verb “be”, berupa is/am/are – karena present tense (waktu sekarang),  dan present participle (V1-ing). Umumnya tense ini hanya terjadi pada aksi berupa dynamic verb, tidak stative verb. Mengapa begitu? karena secara umum hanya dynamic verb yang memiliki bentuk continuous.

Bentuk “to be” (am, is, are)

  1. I am reading a book.
  2. She is reading a book.
  3. We are discussing about accounting.
  4. All of My friends are living in Jakarta.
  5. Ardianto’s tooth is being better.
  6. He is practicing pronunciation.
  7. My Brothers are doing a great job.
  8. They are studying Grammar in EnglishShop right now.
  9. The Students are buying many books.
  10. Budi and I are working in Big Company.
  11. Is she lying under the tree?
  12. Are you bringing My dictionaries?
  13. All of my friends are moving to Yogyakarta next week.
  14. I am going to Ambar Plaza tonight.(Future/Plan)
  15. He is working in two hours.

C. Keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang sering digunakan dalam Present Continuous tense
Now, right now, at the moment, just, still dan tomorrow (digunakan khusus untuk yang menunjuk suatu perencanaan).
