A. Pengertian.
Sebelum melihat beberapa contoh dialog bahasa Inggris expressing sympathy, mari kita definisikan dulu pengertiannya. Expressing Sympathy adalah sebuah ungkapan untuk menyatakan perasaan simpatik atau menarik hati.
Ungkapan ini digunakan dalam situasi ketika orang lain sedang tertimpa musibah atau mendapat hal yang tidak menyenangkan. Pada saat itulah kita mengambil hati orang tersebut dengan ungkapan sympathy bahwa kamu ikut berduka dengan apa yang menimpa orang tersebut.
Untuk membuat contoh dialog bahasa Inggris yang mengekspresikan sympathy, kita dapat menggunakan kalimat-kalimat seperti:
“I am sorry to hear that” (aku sedih mendengar hal itu);
“that’s awful (itu pasti sakit sekali)”;
“that’s ghastly (itu mengerikan)”
B. Contoh Dialog Bahasa Inggris Expressing Sympathy
Contoh 1:
Gabriel : Hi John, how are you? long time we did not see since one year ago.
John : Hi Gabriel. I’m pretty okay. You look so fat now.
Gabriel : Indeed, it’s because of my unhealthy lifestyle.
John : By the way, what about Tim? He works in a office with you, doesn’t he?
Gabriel : Yes, but Tim has been having a lot of troubles lately. I think he might be getting a divorce.
John : I’m sorry to hear about Tim’s problems. I hope things get better for him soon.
Contoh 2:

Amy : Why do you look so sad Novi ?
Novi : I lost my wallet.
Amy : I am sorry to hear that. How can you lost your wallet. When did it happen?
Novi : I don’t know exactly, But I think when I went to the market.
Amy : You should contact the police and make a announcement about losing wallet
Novi : Oke Amy, Thank you so much for your support. I will try it.
Terjemahan dalam Bahasa Indonesia :
Amy: Mengapa Anda terlihat begitu sedih Novi?
Novi: Saya kehilangan dompet.
Amy: Saya sedih mendengarkannya. Bagaimana kamu bisa kehilangan dompet kamu. Kapan itu terjadi?
Novi: Saya tidak tahu persis, tapi saya pikir ketika saya pergi ke pasar.
Amy: Kamu harus menghubungi polisi dan membuat pengumuman tentang kehilangan dompet
Novi: Oke Amy, Terima kasih banyak atas dukungan kamu. Saya akan mencobanya.
